South Mississippi Genealogical & Historical Society
The SOUTH MISSISSIPPI GENEALOGICAL & HISTORICAL SOCIETY (SMGHS) was organized in 1981 as a non-profit organization to serve the genealogical interests of people in south Mississippi.
Our goals are to:
- promote interest in genealogical research and historical events.
- promote public access to and preservation of historical records.
- maintain a public library devoted to collecting, transcribing, and preserving public and private records and disseminating genealogical and historical records and information.
- conduct public lectures, programs, discussion groups, courses of instruction, and forums related to historical events and issues, genealogical research methods and standards of documentation.
We welcome visitors to our library and to our meetings the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. and are always ready to help anyone with research in our library as well as assist in finding other resources.
